Congratulations, everybody, it looks like we have avoided a recession!

Wait, are those inflation numbers getting hot again?

Or maybe we are already in a recession, but we don’t even know it yet…

It’s impossible to ignore that there is so much more discussion about inclusion and diversity in the workplace than ever before. It’s brilliant to see and it’s great that hospitality is part of that conversation. But unfortunate that it is not immune to the caveats and pitfalls that the corporate world falls into.

Let me be the first to admit that there has been an absolute avalanche of think-pieces written in recent months and years on the topic of attracting and retaining staff in hospitality businesses.

These are not new challenges.

But this is my personal experience of it post-COVID.

Like many people who work in this brilliant, chaotic and ever-changing industry, I was not born with the immediate dream of becoming a hospitality professional.
